The class will enable the student to understand and differentiate the advantages and disadvantages of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, annuities, and options. The student will be able to design a portfolio that will match his/her needs. The concept of how interest rates are set, and the vocabulary used to communicate the various yields will be covered in detail. The course also is designed to allow the student to use the Dow Industrial Stocks, or a more aggressive small cap stock list. The effects of taxes and inflation will be discussed with respect to the current investment environment. No textbooks are needed, but students are encouraged to bring along a business newspaper, i.e. The Wall Street Journal, Investment Business Daily, Barrons.
